Student Experiences

Grandview teachers approach curriculum through a STEM lens, meaning we integrate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics into all of our content areas. Students explore hands-on learning, relating what they learn to real-world experiences and occupations. This includes our special areas, where students have the opportunity to learn through musicians in residence in music class and learn skills in media to support career awareness.

Learning doesn’t stop with the end of the school day. Choir, robotics, Student Council, and Running Club are some of the extended learning opportunities available to our students.

Community Partnership

Grandview students take field trips to wonderful places around Monroe County. First graders visit Crane Naval Base and become engineers in training. Fifth-grade students travel to Hoosiers Hills Career Center and work with high school students to construct birdhouses. Students learn about the environment through field trips to Bradford Woods, Leonard Springs Nature Preserve, Griffy Lake, McCormick’s Creek State Park, and Karst Farm Park.

Through trips to the Indiana University Musical Arts Center, students experience ballet, opera, jazz, concert band, and orchestra performances. Every year we invite Lotus Festival guests performers from around the world to expose our students to different cultures through music. Additionally, we host the musicians during a residency to teach students about world cultures and music, culminating in a performance with the Lotus performer and our students.

Our partnerships also include the Indiana University (IU) School of Education, the Department of Astronomy, Athletics, and the Maurer School of Law. Students in these areas offer Grandview students enriching activities that expose them to a variety of career paths.
